Attract Mode
This isn't a guide, but where are we gonna be able to mention the Attract Mode?
You can start the actual game at any time by pressing either 1 or 2 once you have enough credits inserted.

The first thing you'll see is the introduction cinematic. A narrator (voiced by Jack E. Haeger) speaks the CarnEvil legend poem and sets up what constitutes as the plot.
"When the Moon is full and trees are bare - Walk though the Cemetery if you dare. Where skeletons rot and corpses fester - Locate the tomb with the skull of a Jester. Feed him the token all shiny and new - It is then that CarnEvil will return for YOU!" One rainy night a man called Spooky Sam is hosting a ghost tour in Greely Valley, Iowa, with five teenagers tagging along. When he points out the grave of Professor Ludwig von Tökkentäkker, one of them leaves the tour early and summons CarnEvil. A more detailed back-story for the game outside of the introduction can be found on the official website, or a screenshot of it is in the Gallery. The intro and outro cinematics were created by the animation studio Blur. It was founded in 1995 and has gone on to make many more cutscenes in video games. One of the founders of Blur, Tim Miller, also went on to direct Deadpool (2016). |

After that is the splash screen showing the required credits to play/continue, and also advertise the official website.

Next is a gameplay demo showing the Haunted House. The violence level determines which is shown.
The first is inside the kitchen, and then cuts to fighting Flap-Jack in the Freak Show for...no discernible reason, and a really messed up sky. (full gore and red blood) The second is outside the house, Betty shows up, and ends just as the player is about to enter the house. (green blood and none) |
Next is a 'music video' of sorts, with shots of gameplay with music playing. The music for this segment is believed to a cover of Rob Zombie's Superbeast.
This part of attract mode is only seen when violence is set to default 'full gore'. The footage shown is from when the game wasn't finished, as some shots show more ammo than the game allows. The health bars of the bosses are also below their names, rather than above like in the finished game. A comparison between the attract mode footage and the finished game is in the Secrets page. |

Next is the Midway logo fmv. It's pretty cool.
Shouldn't this be at the start of the attract mode? Guess it doesn't matter. |
Finally, the 3Dfx logo is shown.
Many other 3D arcade games used 3Dfx's Glide graphics API, such as California Speed. |
