Big Top
You've made it to our main attraction - The Big Top is the final level of the game and can only be accessed after the other levels have been completed. Located between the Haunted House and Rickety Town, it is split into two main parts, the first within the Big Top tent, and the second aboard Tökkentäkker's airship.
The sky at the start of the Big Top is very different from the rest of the game, more reminiscent of the darker sky seen in early footage, like the second attract mode. |
Umlaut's Rhyme
|
Entrance
Enemies: Smeek, Mister Ozob
Music: The Big Top After flying into the Big Top at a hundred miles an hour, there's lots of Smeeks around. These ones attack with knives, but some throw objects later in the level. You can 'juggle' the items Smeek throws for bonus points. Betty appears inside a cabin between a Smeek and Mister Ozob. The font used on the entrance is Algerian Condensed. The "pay with your life" sign is Rosewood. |
Mimefield
Enemies: Mame
Powerups: Machine Gun Music: The Big Top The Mimefield is a very short section, but it's mentioned in the audits, so here it is. The Mames will not hurt you, and unless you want to wait the game out you're going to have to waste some of the Machine Gun powerup bullets on them. Their reactions can be pretty funny though. Watch out for the backwards poster, too! |
Backstage
Enemies: Smeek, Mister Ozob, Muertito
Music: The Big Top The backstage area is also pretty short. Do the undead really need outhouses? Just as you get into the main area of the Big Top, Betty is just there running around. The Muertito that gets shot out of a cannon might get in front of her so watch out to not shoot her. |
Wagons
Enemies: Broodle, Mame, Mister Ozob
Powerups: Machine Gun Music: The Big Top The Broodles hang around the left ring and the circus wagons nearby, the Machine Gun powerup next to the rings of fire should take care of them. Betty shows up inside one of the wagons and a Mister Ozob slides down the High Wire pole. Focus on the enemies closest to you first, the ones behind will wait. Then the player proves he's a total dumbass by climbing into a lit cannon. |
Trapeze and the High Wire
Enemies: Muertito, Smeek, Mister Ozob, Mame
Powerups: Health Music: The Center Ring In the middle of being launched, there's a health power up. This is the only one in this level until the final battle, so you'd better get it! Who knows what the player was trying to do climbing up here. Either way, a Muertito pushes him off. |
The Center Ring
Enemies: Smeek, Broodle, Dr Klot
Music: The Center Ring After getting pushed off the high wire, an ambulance shaped clown car full of Smeeks drives up. Some more Broodles also show up. Tökkentäkker's secret laboratory appears from under the Center Ring, ran by Dr. Klot. The final battle's coming up, so try not to let them hit you too much. |
Umlaut
Music: Tökkentäkker's Last Stand
When you arrive on Tökkentäkker's airship, he teleports away and you must first battle Umlaut. You still get points for shooting him while he is onscreen, so you can get some bonus points here. Umlaut's only attack is biting. He can be difficult to hit due to his small size. Unlike most enemies, Umlaut does not bleed when he is shot. Instead, he produces clouds of different colored smoke. His model is also never damaged. Umlaut has unique sound clips for each time he flinches and flips over. The only way to hear them all during regular gameplay is to play with Monster Strength set to Very Hard. |
Tökkentäkker
Enemies: Skeletons
Powerups: Health Music: Tökkentäkker's Last Stand The second that Umlaut dies Tökkentäkker will start shooting at you and summoning skeletons to attack you. The skeletons can attack very fast, but luckily they die in one hit. Every so often he will teleport around. Soon enough your player will chase him up a ladder, and there is a health powerup in a hole in the 'fin' at the top of the airship. After more teleporting Tökkentäkker will push the player off the airship, and then briefly switch to punching. His punch attack cannot hit anyone except for the first player it hits. Even if he successfully kills the player he is hitting, he won't switch to attack the other player. Only a few shots will make him teleport away and resume shooting again. If his health is low enough when the player is knocked off the airship, this part will be skipped over. Once the player returns to where Umlaut was fought Tökkentäkker will switch to throwing dynamite and cherry bombs, while sending fireworks at you. These can all be destroyed by shooting them but there's no point since they'll never stop coming. It's far easier to just focus on shooting him. Betty will show up under attack by some skeletons. During this part a skeleton will fall from the top of the screen. This skeleton is ridiculous to hit and you might hit Betty by mistake, it's not really fair. Then the player does something and Betty goes away, maybe he pushed her down the hatch that held the cage he was brought up in. It can be difficult to determine how much damage you are doing as, like Evil Marie, Tökkentäkker doesn't get any model damage until his health is very low. If the level of violence is set to anything other than 'full gore', his death scene will be censored so that he is not dismembered. Keep shooting at him, then you get to enjoy the ending. |
