Professor Ludwig von Tökkentäkker
Nothing comes between the good doctor and evil...including someone such as yourself. Watching from his evil underground [sic] laboratory, it will take more than quick wits and accuracy to defeat him.
- Tips & Tricks magazine, March 1999 (non-canon) Professor (dr. dr.) Ludwig von Tökkentäkker is the ringmaster of CarnEvil and the main antagonist of the game. He wears a blue tailcoat with a pink underside and skulls on the shoulders, yellow trousers and black boots. Over his left eye he wears a monocle with Umlaut on it, and his uncovered eye is blue.
Like Krampus, he occasionally speaks German during his battle, such as calling the player Dummkopfs and Schweinehund. He is voiced by Jack E. Haeger. Boss Battle
During his boss battle he predominantly shoots at the player from afar and summons skeletons to attack him. He teleports around his airship throughout the fight and the player must pursue. Once he pushes the player off the top of the airship he may briefly switch to punching. Towards the end of the boss fight he instead fires an endless barrage of fireworks, dynamite and cherry bombs at the player. He is killed by being knocked into the front propeller of his airship.
Shooting him in the face will knock his monocle off and it will bounce along the floor a few times before floating back into its original place. If the level of violence is not set to 'full gore', his death scene is censored so that he is not dismembered. Attacks |

Extended Lore
In the 2019 reunion, Jack E. Haeger elaborated on the backstory of the game and why CarnEvil 'lives' in Greely Valley's cemetery.
He describes Tökkentäkker falling in love with a local girl and being killed by an angry mob led by the girl's father, a farmer. This also explains why the plague mentioned in the creation of the zombies after Tökkentäkker's burial affected local farmers most of all, as they were responsible for his death. Haeger also elaborated on a scrapped potential story for the Protagonist in which Tökkentäkker personally greets him and takes his girlfriend away, as a motivation for customers to play the game. However, this was scrapped in favor of having the Protagonist be more of an everyman character using the hayride introduction. [The young guy in high school] goes with his girlfriend [to CarnEvil]. They go in, everything locks down, Tökkentäkker shows up, he says, "Thanks for bringing your girlfriend. I'll take her from here." Now you're the boyfriend, you're trapped in the park, and you're trying to win your girlfriend back. That was another scenario we had. |
So in 1898, CarnEvil came through Greely Valley, and the leader of CarnEvil, the mastermind, was Ludwig von Tökkentäkker (we’ll talk about his name a little later), but he fell in love with a local farm girl, a young girl and he decided to take her back on his zeppelin with him. The girl's father, who was a farmer, forbade this and said, “You are not leaving with my daughter”. |
